A three day in-person course providing an introduction to the theoretical and therapeutic principles of PIT and their application in clinical practice
The course is skills-based with extensive use of clinical simulation. Teaching methods include review of PIT therapy videos, roleplay practice and video feedback in small groups. Individual feedback will be provided to enhance learning and skill acquisition
Course completion will enable you to use PIT skills as an adjunct to care in any clinical setting and/or to apply them in formal psychotherapies
Course programme
- Day 1 Introduction to the main components and key concepts of the PIT model; introductory competencies and skills practice
- Day 2 Intermediate skills teaching and practice sessions; PIT theory
- Day 3 Video recordings and feedback to enhance development of PIT skills; introduction to formulation and advanced skills
Who is the course for?
Mental health professionals qualified in a core profession, or another suitably qualified professional (at the discretion of the course director).
This course is suitable for clinicians who:
- Have no previous knowledge of PIT but would like to learn about the model and incorporate PIT skills into their clinical practice
- Are looking to develop the knowledge and skills to practice PIT as a formal psychotherapy
- Are looking to progress to PIT Level 2 (Practitioner) training and become a PIT therapist
The course is delivered by senior clinicians and recognised experts in PIT

PIT-UK Ltd run a Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy (PIT) Level 1 training that will introduce you to the theoretical and therapeutic principles of working with PIT, as well as the application of these principles in clinical practice.
PIT is a brief, evidence-based psychological treatment for mental health problems including depression, functional (ie ‘medically unexplained’) symptoms, deliberate self-harm and personality disorder.
